At Harlington Lower School we recognise that all our pupils are individuals with different strengths and needs. We endeavour to achieve maximum inclusion of all children (including vulnerable children) whilst meeting their individual needs. In order to fully support children with special educational needs or disabilities, teachers provide differentiated learning opportunities for all the children within our school. This includes differentiated activities, small group work, pre- teaching or implementing adult support as well as providing materials appropriate to children’s interests and abilities. This ensures that all children have full access to our school curriculum.

We use a Graduated Approach to SEND.  This begins with Wave 1, Quality First teaching which includes observations and monitoring which is backed up by quality training for all staff.  Wave 2 introduces other strategies to support children such as small group teaching or bespoke interventions.  Wave 3 then involves more individual interventions, seeking advice from outside agencies.  Parents are involved throughout
We follow an 'Assess, Plan, Do, Review' cycle as outlined in the SEN Code of Practice (2015)

Identification, assessment and provision for children with Special Educational Needs is a matter for the whole school with parents working in partnership.

All members of staff play a very important part in ensuring needs are met to the best of our ability to ensure potential is reached.
